Whats happening in the timber market place?

It’s tough out there

image-may-newsletterI think that we are all asked this question virtually every day and I think that the typical reply is, that “it is tough out there”, everyone seems to be hanging on until June and July when the market traditionally starts the upturn towards Christmas.

South Africa is certainly not unique in going through the current tough times, reading the newspapers and listening on the radio and TV to what is happening in Europe and elsewhere, we are certainly a lot better of than a lot of places, who would want to be in Greece or Turkey right now, very tough.

We at Edwood Marketing value our customers and in these times it is all about service and offering the best value for money, so reminder that we offer real value for money in our 16mm unsanded Chipboard from NHR in Swaziland, this product is ideal for carcassing, upholstered furniture, coffin manufacturing and many other applications, plus the good news is that the 12mm Chipboard is soon to be available, so again savings to be made there. We run a Timber Management system

Also a reminder that Edwood runs a Timber Management system that is available to all our customers, it gives you your current stocks, purchases and issues and is a great management tool, it takes very little effort on your side, all the hard work is done by Kate (031 7647438) in our offices, it is an additional service available from us to our customers.

In these tough times it is worth considering some custom cut sizes, the saving on a 22 x 76mm size compared to a 25 x 76mm is 12%, so for paying the same price per cubic metre you get an additional 72 linear metres of plank in a cubic metre of timber.

Work it out for yourself, in a cubic metre of 25 x 76mm timber there is 526 linear metres and in a cubic metre of 22 x 76mm timber there is 598 linear metres.

So if you are paying R2000/m3 of timber the 25 x76 will cost you R3.80 per linear metre and the 22 x 76mm will cost you 3.34 per linear metre, a saving of R0.46 per metre. Massive savings in these tough times.

For more of this speak to Sam Edwards 082 5730919.

For all telephonic enquiries speak to Noreen (031 7647438), she has a vast pool of knowledge of what is available from all the sawmill out there and is very experienced in matching your requirements to a mill best suited to your needs.
