The manufacturing market or should I say, that sector of the manufacturing market that we at Edwood Marketing deal in, are facing some lean times and we as Timber/Board Agents, Marketers and Traders need to find ways to save our customers money regards the raw materials that our customers buy, through better/smarter purchasing techniques.
We have successfully navigated our regular customers in this direction and the savings they have incurred have helped their businesses through these tight economic times. It is amazing the savings that can be made by buying smart, buying the right grade for the job and also looking at custom cut sizes. The cubic metre price may be more but when you work out the linear metre price the savings are quite staggering, from a 76mm down to a 65mm width there is a 14.47% saving. Makes you think!
Some figures that back up the tight markets can be seen in the latest South African Lumber Index (www.crickmay.co.za/sawmilling) – “total softwood lumber sales for formal sawmills for the 12 months ending Feb 2013 amounted to 1’518’062m3, compared with 1’523’817m3 sold during the previous 12 month period. This reflects a decrease of 0.4%. The Feb 2013 sales at 124’049m3 were 9% lower than those of Feb 2012 at 136’380m3”

Smart software that makes our customers work more efficiently
At Edwood we can also monitor your stock levels for you, we have an inhouse stock control system that can give you a daily breakdown of your timber stock, it gives you grade, size, length, number of pieces, cubic metres and value.
